Did you know that the names the US uses for mattress sizes wouldn’t make sense to someone from Sweden? Spain? Even the UK? There are literally different mattress languages; it’s not all twin, full, queen, king. Often, people move to Europe or move from Europe and have furniture they brought with them on their overseas move. So, what do you do when you have a UK standard mattress that has no equivalent in the US?

Refresher on US Mattress Sizes
First, here’s a little reminder/rundown of US mattress sizes, including all those weird state-named ones:
Dorm: 39” W x 80” L (also called a Twin XL)
Twin: 38” W x 75” L
Full: 54” W x 75” L
Queen: 60” W x 80” L
Olympic Queen: 66” W x 80” L
Short Queen: 60” W x 74” L
¾ Bed: 48” W x 75” L
King: 76” W x 80” L
California King: 72” W x 84” L
Texas King: 80” W x 96” L
Florida King: 108” W x 80” L
Wyoming King: 84” x 84”
Alberta King: 96” x 96”
Alaska King: 108” x 108”
Of course, there’s also always the option of custom mattress manufacturers, so there’s an infinite list of sizes and shapes of mattresses in the US that aren’t standard. For instance, van beds, sofa bed mattresses and mattresses for RV bunks.
How do European & UK Mattress Sizes Compare?
Of course the UK had to go and have a couple different mattress sizes than the rest of Europe. Some standard international mattress sizes overlap with the US, but you’ll notice many are smaller.
Single: 35” W x 79” L
Single Extra Long: 35” W x 83” L
Double: 55” W x 79” L
Small Double: 47” W x 79” L
EU King: 63” W x 79” L
UK King: 60” W x 78” L
EU Grand King: 71” W x 79” L
UK Grand King: 72” W x 78” L (also called a Queen or Super King)
As you can see, there are a few 1 to 2 inch, frustrating differences between some of these European sizes and US standard sizes. Well, it’s actually a few centimeters, because it’s Europe. But that’s not the point.
